Before Passover Jesus went to Bethany to spend time with Lazarus, Martha and Mary prepared a dinner, and during this dinner Mary took out a very expensive bottle of perfume and began to wash Jesus’s feet and Judas began to verbally persecute her for not seeking the perfume and giving the money to the poor (which he was actually pocketing for himself).
Jesus stepped in, verses 7&8, “Leave her alone,” Jesus replied. “It was intended that she should save this perfume for the day of my burial. You will always have the poor among you, but you will not always have me.” This was bold and I love how Jesus knows what is coming but he is so accepting of what Gods plan for him, in his glorious perfection.
This only led the chief priests to get more adamant about crucifying Jesus and now they are going to kill Lazarus as well because to many now want to follow Jesus because of his raising Lazarus from the dead.
Have you ever felt dead inside? I have and I can tell you that the only way to be brought from having a dead soul is to reach out to God for him to raise up our dead soul back to life. To allow light into the darkest depths of our dead soul. All we have to do is ask!
My prayer for us today is to invite him in to any dark place we may have to shine light or pray for someone you know that may be hurting that he would raise their deadness and restore life.
