Finally Jesus decides to head to the festival. A great crowd was forming to see him and they went out of the city to see him and praise him, because they had heard the sign he performed for Lazarus.
Jesus knew the word, verses 14-16, Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, as it is written: “Do not be afraid, Daughter Zion; see, your king is coming, seated on a donkey’s colt.” At first his disciples did not understand all this. Only after Jesus was glorified did they realize that these things had been written about him and that these things had been done to him. The disciples are starting to realize the scriptures are becoming a reality. Even then the word was living and breathing and applied to their lives today.
Verse 19, So the Pharisees said to one another, “See, this is getting us nowhere. Look how the whole world has gone after him.” Panic and fear are starting to set in for the Pharisees because they see their control slipping away. How often do we find ourselves feeling this way, panicked and fearful because we are losing control? For me it’s often because I want to be in control, if I can control my direction, my time and my path, then I feel like I have accomplished something. However God continues to teach and show me in sometimes in good ways and painful ways that the my selfish control and not relying on him is not the way he want me to lead my life. I need to release that control to him and I need to manage my direction, my time and my path based on his control.
My prayer for us today is to acknowledge one area of control that we need to surrender to him so that he can guide and teach, and we can manage his guidance and teaching to serve what purpose he has for us.
