John 12:37-50 | Belief and Unbelief Among the Jews

Belief and unbelief among the Jews. Even after all the signs and miracles Jesus has performed, still their are still those who don’t or won’t believe.

John shares the old scripture from Isaiah. Verse 40“He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts, so they can neither see with their eyes, nor understand with their hearts, nor turn—and I would heal them.” Verses 42&43Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him. But because of the Pharisees they would not openly acknowledge their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue; for they loved human praise more than praise from God.

Jesus shares verses 46-47I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness. “If anyone hears my words but does not keep them, I do not judge that person. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world. Jesus also shares that God will judge those who do not believe. God and Jesus do not judge those of us who believe, we are the ones who judge not only ourselves but others. I don’t know about you but I know that I am so hard on myself, I judge myself so harshly for the things I do wrong or am not perfect at, even though I know deep in my heart that God gives me forgiveness, grace and mercy for my mistakes, somehow I can’t do the same for myself, ugh! Note to self, yes God I get it, and I am going to work on it.

My prayer for us today is to allow our hearts to be unhardened and our eyes open to see Gods love, mercy and grace, not our own judgement.
