John 13:1-17 | Jesus Washes His Disciples’ Feet

Jesus is fast approaching the time that his been chosen to be put to death. It is the final gathering of Jesus and his disciples for the last supper. Judas was about to betray hi and Jesus was fully aware of it. He took the opportunity to wash the feet of his disciples, the ultimate servant.

Simon Peter took issue with this and his response is in verses 7&8Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.” “No,” said Peter, “you shall never wash my feet.” Jesus answered, “Unless I wash you, you have no part with me.” I would probably have been like Peter, yet we know his was the ultimate servant and this was an important process for him to complete before his death.

Verses 14-16, Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Jesus was our example of what an amazing servant heart is supposed to be and how to be humble and righteous in service and obedience to our master.

My prayer for us today is to display a servant heart to those who we tend to take for granted showing them how important they are to us. Make them feel special and important to you enough to serve them in a special way.
